Do you struggle with anxiety? Do you experience panic attacks or a constant sense of worry? In this workshop, we will explore how yoga can be a powerful vehicle for managing symptoms of stress and anxiety. Using the koshas (the layers of being) as our roadmap, we will use practical tools that can be practiced in daily life to manage anxiety, as well as deepen our yoga practice in a safe space with those who share similar experiences. This workshop will include both a physical asana practice as well as lecture, journaling, and optional thai yoga technique (hands on assisted stretching, traction, and compressions). Questions? Within from Without: Trauma Informed Self-Journeying - A three part series with T. Aisha Edwards

Please note: This is a 3 part cumulative series. All sessions are included in the price and the schedule is as follows:
Session one - Saturday, August 17th Noon -3:30pm 

Session two - Saturday, August 31st Noon - 3:30pm 

Session three - Saturday, September 14th Noon -3:30pm 

Trauma can leave us feeling fragmented from our embodied nature, in patterns of numbing, reactivity and self-sabotage. Through invitations into discussion, guided meditation, gentle movement and simple ritual, this 3 part workshop builds on and deepens trauma healing. In an intimate group, participants will learn about impacts of trauma on the body, skills to ground and contain trauma responses, and ultimately, how to engage wounded parts. Each session builds foundations for the next. Therefore sessions 2 and 3 are closed to new participants.

Within from Without is a trauma-informed series integrating evidence based approaches and opportunities to build spiritual/ancestral practices into healing. It is intended for folks who have developed a secure footing in their trauma work or are currently working with a healer. This material is unsuited for folks who have not yet begun their trauma journey or who do not have access to ongoing professional support. Participant discretion is advised.

All groups will include time for journaling. Please bring notebook or drawing pad. Other art practice materials will be provided. Dress comfortably and in layers. Please contact in advance if you need accommodations for long sits.

Teacher Bio:

T. Aisha Edwards, LMHC, LPC is a somatic trauma therapist with a private practice in Vancouver WA. Practicing for 12 years now, she still remains awed at the power of somatic healing to transform entrenched trauma patterns. Aisha specializes in working with Complex Trauma in POC and LGTBQ communities. She loves books, woo, music, travel, fashion, food, laughter and that amazing look on a client’s face when they surprise themselves and break a trauma cycle. Aisha is overjoyed to bring new ways to heal out of the office and into the world at large. She is comfortable with she, her, they pronouns.

Yoga can both energize and calm you. In this workshop we will learn focused yoga techniques to "lift" you during the day and calm you at night.

  • Practice postures that combat fatigue

  • Develop activities helping to transition from wakefulness to sleepiness

  • Learn to calm a restless or ruminating mind

Insomnia is complex. Yoga is being explored in clinical trials as a modality to improve sleep—a symptom soother. Diane Thompson is the ongoing yoga instructor in a study administered by the University of Rochester and Providence Health & Services to help people in cancer remission to manage insomnia. With this class, Diane brings her knowledge of yoga postures associated with restfulness to a wider audience.

Jessamyn Stanley is a yoga teacher, body positivity advocate, and writer based in Durham, North Carolina. Jessamyn uses high energy vinyasa flow as a way to move past mental and emotional barriers. Accessible Yoga Training with Amber Karnes

Accessible Yoga is an international advocacy organization focusing on sharing yoga with all. We offer Accessible Yoga Conferences, Trainings, and the Accessible Yoga Network.

The Accessible Yoga Training focuses on how to make the yoga teaching available to everyone, regardless of their level of physical ability. We’ll focus on creating integrated Accessible Yoga classes where all students can practice together. We’ll explore the many ways that yoga practice can be modified to suit students with disabilities, physical challenges, chronic illness, seniors, and anyone who doesn’t feel comfortable in a regular class.

We’ll consider how to make our classes welcoming to everyone, and to approach students in a trauma-informed way. You’ll learn sample Accessible Yoga classes, chair yoga classes and even bed yoga classes. We’ll also look at ways of bringing the yoga teachings and meditation into your classes, and how all of yoga can be used to support health and healing for every body. We’ll also review common medical conditions so that you have a basic understanding of these issues, and review essential concepts of yoga philosophy to build your understanding of the teachings.

Graduates of the program become Accessible Yoga Ambassadors and connect with a network of Accessible Yoga teachers and students around the world. Participants who have completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training will become Certified Accessible Yoga Teachers.

Your feet are an often-abused yet overlooked part of your body. In this workshop, we will learn ways to release and strengthen the feet, then look at how your posture, alignment, and walking pattern may be causing you pain.

In this class, you will:
• Learn foot releases, stretches and strengthening exercises
• Evaluate your walking/gait patterns for reduced pain and greater efficiency
• Practice yoga techniques to increase awareness and improve the long-term health of the feet

About the instructors: Kerri Maskol is a pilates instructor and movement educator with a specialized focus on feet and gait patterns. Kerri studied Foot & Gait Therapy under the mentorship of master trainer Nancy Myers as well as rehabilitation work with Lizz Roman, and has trained with author and bio-mechanist Katy Bowman and James Earls of Anatomy Trains UK. She delights in helping her clients achieve their health and wellness goals so they can move through life pain-free, with greater ease and grace.

Carol Grimes is a yoga and meditation teacher who specializes in yoga, mindful movement, and meditation for people with physical pain or emotional stress. She has studied with Doug Keller, Monicka Koneski, and Gary Krafstow in the fields of therapeutic yoga and yoga for chronic pain and is also certified in Love Your Brain Yoga. Carol's teaching is designed to heal and realign the body into long-term healthy movement patterns and to help bring a sense of ease and restoration to body and mind.

Yoga for Low Back Health. A clinic for the active body with Jenn Noble, RYT500. 

Have you experienced low back pain, or know someone who has? Do you lead an active lifestyle, and are curious about ways to offset low back stress, so that you can continue to do the things you love? In this two hour workshop we will explore how Yoga can help support low back health through physical practices (asana), as well as mindfulness techniques to increase body awareness. We will discuss a little anatomy, a little philosophy, and move the body mindfully together. You will come away with tools you can use in your everyday life to help keep you strong and centered, so that you can continue to participate in the active lifestyle you love. Jenn is a 500HR Yoga teacher who knows intimately the importance of a healthy low back. In 2009 she sustained a stress fracture in her lower spine which, in turn, led to a condition called Spondylolisthesis. Through the practices of Yoga she has been able to not only manage physical pain and regain mobility, but also change the trajectory of her life. She is deeply passionate about sharing the power of Yoga for healing in a light-hearted, sincere, and accessible manner.

Racial Equity & Inclusion with Kenya Budd

Our facilitator, Kenya Budd, will help us explore implicit bias and help us understand how they appear in interpersonal interactions in your practices, with students and with peers. In addition, she will help us understand how implicit bias can be an impediment to another person's access to wellness, and we'll also discuss racial anxiety and fragility. Kenya will help us navigate self-reflective questions and help us find some viable interruptions that can impact a group's functioning, communication and trust.

This event is open to everyone, students and teachers alike, and may be particularly helpful for those who work in wellness professions. It is a 2 part event held Sat, October 20th from Noon - 3pm and Sunday October 21st from Noon - 3pm. Please plan to attend both days. According to Chinese Medicine, after Yang energy peaks at the height of summer and prior to the arrival of the Yin phase of the year, there is a unique “5th season” of late Summer, governed by the element of Earth. Earth energy provides a stabilizing force during times of transition. When our Earth Chi is strong, we feel grounded and at ease and are able to appreciate living in the present moment. When are earth Chi is weak, the mind is unsettled and consumed with worry. This can show up in the body as digestive issues, over or under eating and genergal dullness & lethargy.

Gather together to say farewell to summer and celebrate new beginnings at this Equinox celebration. The evening will include a bit of introspection, meditation in motion/yoga dance, and intention setting for the season ahead. 

The event will be guided by April Hauck who studied Journey Dance as well as Tantra rituals at Kripalu School of Yoga. This event will be inclusive and fun. All are welcome. No need for yoga mats. Just wear comfy clothes and be ready to move you incredible bodies and celebrate.

Meet the Balance Bar A workshop for yoga teachers and students

It’s not your average broomstick! The Balance Bar is a durable, flexible, lightweight staff with traction tips for safety and foam padding for comfort.

This revolutionary new prop helps you and your students gain confidence in class by:

- Assisting with balance in standing poses (without going to the wall or dragging a clunky chair around)

- Finding alignment in complicated poses like Triangle, Half Moon and Warrior 3 (especially when the block is too small and too far to reach)

- Preventing injuries by warming up your joints with circular, spiral movements borrowed from Qi Gong and Tai Chi

- Releasing stress with self-massage and fascia release in the places where foam rollers and balls can’t get to (without so much pain!)

In this workshop, you will get a chance to try out numerous poses with the Balance Bar and apply its miraculous support to your own style and yoga system, making your class and practice more accessible.

Developing Wisdom Presence through the Four Yogas

In this challenging time, many of us are wondering what we can do, and in particular how does our yoga practice inform or connect us to a deeper understanding of our presence and power. We know we “come to the mat” to collect ourselves, to reflect and recharge, but we don’t always understand our yoga practice as a spiritual and philosophical discipline that has much to offer us, especially in terms of learning how to self-reflect, to gain confidence and courage, and to truly see the ways in which we are inextricably linked, how collective liberation is a process of individual liberation.

In our collective effort to secularize yoga, we have often missed the opportunity for connection to divine presence, the very foundation for reflection and relationship through yoga. In this inspiring workshop, we will discover the transcendent heart of yoga as it is described in the Bhagavad Gita, and the ways in which we can deepen a sense of divinity in service to others through each of the four yogas.

In this powerful workshop, students will be invited into an exploration of Self, as well as offered several specific practices to increase their own sense of connectedness through contemplation, service, devotion and reflection.
