Curvy Yoga 101

Yoga is well known for its positive effects on everything from pain management to anxiety to increased flexibility. However, it is often taught with a thin frame in mind, leaving bigger bodied students unsure of how to move with their curvier parts. If you have always wanted to try yoga but thought it was only for thin, able-bodies, or previously attended a yoga class and felt unseen or not given helpful info on how to make space in your practice for your belly, boobs, and booty, then Curvy Yoga 101 is for you!

In this two and a half hour workshop, we will break down the basics of our physical practice, and you will learn to move safely and inclusively with all your bumps and curves. If you are new to yoga, this is a great place to start. If you’re a seasoned practitioner but always felt like your curves were a hurdle you needed to overcome, Curvy Yoga 101 will impact your practice in a profound and insightful way. And if you are a Curvy Yoga regular, this workshop offers an opportunity to fine tune and check in.

Yes, YOU can practice yoga. Join us in this body-positive community, learn skills you can use in any yoga class you want to attend, and learn how yoga is for EVERY body.

Living with Intention: The exploration of Yoga's Yamas & Niyamas with April Hauck

Yoga is a multifaceted practice which not only includes the physical asana but also incorporates our behaviors, attitudes and thoughts. In Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, the Yamas and Niyamas were given to yogis as a way of guiding relationships with others as well as to the self.

The study and practice of the Yamas and Niyamas helps guide us towards living a life that reflects our ethical and moral character. They can be keys to self love, honesty, loving kindness and creating boundaries for ourselves to name a few.

This workshop will explore this philosophy and offer approachable ways to include these in our daily lives both on and off the mat.

**Please note this is lecture and discussion based, there will be no physical practice.

The Accessible Yoga Training focuses on how to make the yoga teaching available to everyone, regardless of their level of physical ability. You’ll learn sample Accessible Yoga classes, chair yoga classes and even bed yoga classes. We’ll also look at ways of bringing the yoga teachings and meditation into your classes, and how all of yoga can be used to support health and healing for every body. We’ll also review common medical conditions so that you have a basic understanding of these issues, and review essential concepts of yoga philosophy to build your understanding of the teachings.

Late Summer Yin Intensive- The Element of Earth: Cultivating Balance & Contentment

According to Chinese Medicine, after Yang energy peaks at the height of summer and prior to the arrival of the Yin phase of the year, there is a unique “5th season” of late Summer, governed by the element of Earth. Earth energy provides a stabilizing force during times of transition. When our Earth Chi is strong, we feel grounded and at ease and are able to appreciate living in the present moment. When are earth Chi is weak, the mind is unsettled and consumed with worry. This can show up in the body as digestive issues, over or under eating and genergal dullness & lethargy.

Join Anne Witmer for this 2 hour workshop where we will learn how to strengthen and mobilize our earth energy through specific yin poses that target the meridians and organs governed by earth (stomach & spleen). Through meditation and self-inquiry, we will work to quiet the voices of worry and anxiety and cultivate a deeper sense of inner contentment.  Please pre-register to guarantee your spot!

This workshop has been cancelled. Stay tuned for this workshop to be rescheduled and thank you for your understanding.

Meet the Balance Bar A workshop for yoga teachers and students

It’s not your average broomstick! The Balance Bar is a durable, flexible, lightweight staff with traction tips for safety and foam padding for comfort.

This revolutionary new prop helps you and your students gain confidence in class by:

- Assisting with balance in standing poses (without going to the wall or dragging a clunky chair around)

- Finding alignment in complicated poses like Triangle, Half Moon and Warrior 3 (especially when the block is too small and too far to reach)

- Preventing injuries by warming up your joints with circular, spiral movements borrowed from Qi Gong and Tai Chi

- Releasing stress with self-massage and fascia release in the places where foam rollers and balls can’t get to (without so much pain!)

In this workshop, you will get a chance to try out numerous poses with the Balance Bar and apply its miraculous support to your own style and yoga system, making your class and practice more accessible.

Teachers are encouraged to come as well as students of any level, especially those who struggle with traditional classes and want to find true stability and ease in their yoga and in their bodies. $35 / $31.50 for YNW members

Developing Wisdom Presence with Molly Lannon Kenny

Developing Wisdom Presence through the Four Yogas

In this challenging time, many of us are wondering what we can do, and in particular how does our yoga practice inform or connect us to a deeper understanding of our presence and power. We know we “come to the mat” to collect ourselves, to reflect and recharge, but we don’t always understand our yoga practice as a spiritual and philosophical discipline that has much to offer us, especially in terms of learning how to self-reflect, to gain confidence and courage, and to truly see the ways in which we are inextricably linked, how collective liberation is a process of individual liberation.

In our collective effort to secularize yoga, we have often missed the opportunity for connection to divine presence, the very foundation for reflection and relationship through yoga. In this inspiring workshop, we will discover the transcendent heart of yoga as it is described in the Bhagavad Gita, and the ways in which we can deepen a sense of divinity in service to others through each of the four yogas.

In this powerful workshop, students will be invited into an exploration of Self, as well as offered several specific practices to increase their own sense of connectedness through contemplation, service, devotion and reflection.

Don't miss this opportunity to study with Molly. She is the author of the yoga memoir No Gurus Came Knocking, countless articles and press and the founder of The Samarya Center. She is currently on the board of Yoga Service Council and is former Vice President of International Association of Yoga Therapists. Her teaching is down to earth, deeply knowledgeable and full of joy and expression.

Summer Yin Intensive: The Element of Fire - Opening to Love & Joy with Anne Witmer

Summertime and the living is easy…. that is, if your fire chi (energy) is strong and balanced.   According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the element of fire is dominant during summer, when the sun (the ultimate source of fire energy) is at its strongest.   Strong fire chi manifests within us as love, laughter, vitality and enthusiasm for life and allows us to be warm and generous with others.  When our fire chi is weak we become bored with life, feel depressed and struggle with social relationships.  During this 2-hour workshop, you will learn how specific Yin poses can be used to strengthen and balance your internal fire energy.   This practice along with breathwork and guided meditation will help you open your heart to more joy and love and re-ignite your passion & vitality.  $35/ $31.50 for YNW members

Free Your Shoulders! with Carol Grimes

A four week workshop series / Sunday, June 3rd - June 24th  11A - 12:15P

Do you have chronically tight shoulders or have a habit of holding tension in and around your shoulders?

Do you want your shoulders to feel free and open, strong and stable? The shoulders are the most mobile joint in the body, yet for many of us they feel chronically "stuck" and/or "weak" due to stress, injury, or habits formed in our modern lifestyle. In this 4-week series you will learn how to both open and strengthen your shoulders, allowing you to move with more ease and freedom.

In this class, you will:

• Practice therapeutic movement techniques to release and relax shoulder tension

• Strengthen and align the shoulders to improve stability and mobility

• Fall in love with your shoulders all over again!

This series is limited to 8 participants. Reserve your spot now! $85 / $77 for YNW members.

Spring Yin Intensive with Anne Witmer - The Element of Wood: Transforming Dreams into Action!

Spring Yin Intensive with Anne Witmer - The Element of Wood: Transforming Dreams into Action!

Spring Yin Intensive - The Element of Wood: Transforming Dreams into Action!

Springtime ushers in the start of the natural year and the emergence of a more active, external energy.   During this time we move out of the darkness of winter (the yin cycle) and into the light (yang cycle).  All that has been invisible now becomes visible.

In Chinese Medicine, Spring is said to be dominated by the element of Wood which is associated with new beginnings, growth and creative manifestation.  When our wood energy is strong, we are optimistic, productive & able to turn our dreams into action.

During this wokshop we will learn more about the energy of wood & practice specific yin poses that target the meridians & organs governed by this element (liver & gall bladder).  This will stimulate the flow of our wood chi, and help bolster our motivation to make needed changes & turn our ideas into actions.

We will also discuss how living with unfulfilled desires can obstruct our wood chi and lead to anger, frustration and stagnation.  We will address this issue with a guided meditation to cultivate greater contentment and patience. If you have been feeling frustrated and are trying to make needed changes in your life, this is the workshop for you!

$35 / $31.50 for YNW members. Pre-registration is required.
