Developing Wisdom Presence with Molly Lannon Kenny

Developing Wisdom Presence through the Four Yogas

In this challenging time, many of us are wondering what we can do, and in particular how does our yoga practice inform or connect us to a deeper understanding of our presence and power. We know we “come to the mat” to collect ourselves, to reflect and recharge, but we don’t always understand our yoga practice as a spiritual and philosophical discipline that has much to offer us, especially in terms of learning how to self-reflect, to gain confidence and courage, and to truly see the ways in which we are inextricably linked, how collective liberation is a process of individual liberation.

In our collective effort to secularize yoga, we have often missed the opportunity for connection to divine presence, the very foundation for reflection and relationship through yoga. In this inspiring workshop, we will discover the transcendent heart of yoga as it is described in the Bhagavad Gita, and the ways in which we can deepen a sense of divinity in service to others through each of the four yogas.

In this powerful workshop, students will be invited into an exploration of Self, as well as offered several specific practices to increase their own sense of connectedness through contemplation, service, devotion and reflection.

Don't miss this opportunity to study with Molly. She is the author of the yoga memoir No Gurus Came Knocking, countless articles and press and the founder of The Samarya Center. She is currently on the board of Yoga Service Council and is former Vice President of International Association of Yoga Therapists. Her teaching is down to earth, deeply knowledgeable and full of joy and expression.

Meet the Balance Bar

Meet the Balance Bar A workshop for yoga teachers and students

It’s not your average broomstick! The Balance Bar is a durable, flexible, lightweight staff with traction tips for safety and foam padding for comfort.

This revolutionary new prop helps you and your students gain confidence in class by:

- Assisting with balance in standing poses (without going to the wall or dragging a clunky chair around)

- Finding alignment in complicated poses like Triangle, Half Moon and Warrior 3 (especially when the block is too small and too far to reach)

- Preventing injuries by warming up your joints with circular, spiral movements borrowed from Qi Gong and Tai Chi

- Releasing stress with self-massage and fascia release in the places where foam rollers and balls can’t get to (without so much pain!)

In this workshop, you will get a chance to try out numerous poses with the Balance Bar and apply its miraculous support to your own style and yoga system, making your class and practice more accessible.

Teachers are encouraged to come as well as students of any level, especially those who struggle with traditional classes and want to find true stability and ease in their yoga and in their bodies. $35 / $31.50 for YNW members

Nate Guadagni has been teaching yoga, qi gong and meditation full time for over thirteen years and is the founder of Bo Yoga®, a rapidly growing health and wellness system. His mission through Bo Yoga is to make mindful movement accessible to all people by providing innovative props and training techniques and adapting to student's diverse needs. He is the author of Bo Yoga: 7 Essential Values to Energize Your Life and has produced three DVDs: Bo Yoga for Beginners, Bo Yoga Basics and 5 Elements Qi Gong. He has also created online courses and leads national workshops and teacher trainings around the country. He is a member of the Yoga Alliance and the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Late Summer Yin Intensive- The Element of Earth: Cultivating Balance & Contentment

According to Chinese Medicine, after Yang energy peaks at the height of summer and prior to the arrival of the Yin phase of the year, there is a unique “5th season” of late Summer, governed by the element of Earth. Earth energy provides a stabilizing force during times of transition. When our Earth Chi is strong, we feel grounded and at ease and are able to appreciate living in the present moment. When are earth Chi is weak, the mind is unsettled and consumed with worry. This can show up in the body as digestive issues, over or under eating and genergal dullness & lethargy.

Join Anne Witmer for this 2 hour workshop where we will learn how to strengthen and mobilize our earth energy through specific yin poses that target the meridians and organs governed by earth (stomach & spleen). Through meditation and self-inquiry, we will work to quiet the voices of worry and anxiety and cultivate a deeper sense of inner contentment.  Please pre-register to guarantee your spot!

Summer Yin Intensive: The Element of Fire - Opening to Love & Joy with Anne Witmer

Summertime and the living is easy…. that is, if your fire chi (energy) is strong and balanced.   According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the element of fire is dominant during summer, when the sun (the ultimate source of fire energy) is at its strongest.   Strong fire chi manifests within us as love, laughter, vitality and enthusiasm for life and allows us to be warm and generous with others.  When our fire chi is weak we become bored with life, feel depressed and struggle with social relationships.  During this 2-hour workshop, you will learn how specific Yin poses can be used to strengthen and balance your internal fire energy.   This practice along with breathwork and guided meditation will help you open your heart to more joy and love and re-ignite your passion & vitality.  $35/ $31.50 for YNW members

Spring Yin Intensive with Anne Witmer - The Element of Wood: Transforming Dreams into Action!

Spring Yin Intensive - The Element of Wood: Transforming Dreams into Action!

Springtime ushers in the start of the natural year and the emergence of a more active, external energy.   During this time we move out of the darkness of winter (the yin cycle) and into the light (yang cycle).  All that has been invisible now becomes visible.

In Chinese Medicine, Spring is said to be dominated by the element of Wood which is associated with new beginnings, growth and creative manifestation.  When our wood energy is strong, we are optimistic, productive & able to turn our dreams into action.

During this wokshop we will learn more about the energy of wood & practice specific yin poses that target the meridians & organs governed by this element (liver & gall bladder).  This will stimulate the flow of our wood chi, and help bolster our motivation to make needed changes & turn our ideas into actions.

We will also discuss how living with unfulfilled desires can obstruct our wood chi and lead to anger, frustration and stagnation.  We will address this issue with a guided meditation to cultivate greater contentment and patience. If you have been feeling frustrated and are trying to make needed changes in your life, this is the workshop for you!

$35 / $31.50 for YNW members. Pre-registration is required.

Embodied Movement, Breath & Self-Care with Anna Mitra

Embodied Movement, Breath & Self-Care: Holistic Yoga Therapeutics

Invite healing into your life through conscious daily movement. This practice reminds us that we are not broken, that we are born to move, and that we are capable of healing through our own awareness and a connection to our deepest inner strength. Through mindful movement exploration of our body's relationship to the earth (ground reaction force), our mind's ability to map our movement and position through space (proprioception), breathwork, meditation, and self-care, learn and develop skills to move with more ease and strength,  so that you may step into the wholeness and the aliveness that you already are. In this way, we are able to fully inhabit our truest nature and deepen our relationship with ourselves and our own unique way of being.

Winter Yin Intensive with Anne Witmer

Winter Yin Intensive on the Element of Water: Cultivating Deep Peace & Inner Wisdom

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, feeling burned- out, depleted, creatively stifled or out of touch with your true purpose in life, is a sign that
you are experiencing a defiency or imbalance with your water energy/chi. The Water element is dominant during the winter months and often creates an innate desire to turn away from the demands of the external world in order to find quiet and stillness within.  During this workshop we will learn more about the energy of water & practice specific yin poses that target the meridians & organs governed by this element (kidneys & bladder).  This practice will soothe the nervous system and create a feeling of deep calm in the body and mind.  We will conclude with a guided meditation to tap into our inner wisdom, re-ignite our creativity & re-align ourselves with our authentic self.

Curvy Yoga Series with Heather Jones

Looking for a yoga class that teaches you to move WITH your body, not IN SPITE of your body, through thoughtful movement and a broad array of options? If so, then Curvy Yoga is for you! In this 4 week series, we will explore our practice inclusive of our beautiful & bodacious curves. No flowery language, no condemnation for our shapes; only real talk and a loving embrace!

Curvy Yoga will teach you to:
Make peace with those parts of you that feel like a hurdle you needed to work around, experience the joy of practicing WITH everything you bring to the mat
Shed the self-criticism, making way for a healthy self-image and a renewed relationship with yoga
Utilize modifications for every shape and size, turning frustrating postures into nurturing, safe movement

Although this class is moderately active, every student is invited to move at their own pace without concern that they won’t be able “to keep up.” It is appropriate for students who are able to get up and down from the floor with ease on their own or with props (other than a chair or the wall), as there will be considerable movement from standing to floor. If you have questions or concerns about participating, feel free to contact Heather at curvyyogapdx@gmail.com.

This three-week course costs $60. 12:30-2pm on Sunday Jan 7, 14, and 21.

Autumn Yin Intensive with Anne Witmer
The Element of Metal & the Art of Letting Go

In Chinese medicine, Autumn is viewed as the start of the Yin season as it brings the onset of descending metal chi (energy). We observe the falling of leaves, feel a crispness in the air and sense a pull to turn inward. Metal energy challenges us to deal with change and loss and is associated with the emotion of grief. But metal is also associated with courage, resilience and the ability to truly appreciate the beauty of life in each moment.

During this two hour workshop we will engage in an in-depth, yin yoga practice to stimulate the organs and meridians governed by metal (the lungs & large intestine) and learn more about how this energy affects our body and mind. This will be followed by a guided meditation to help release resistance to changes and loss and allow us to surrender into a deeper state of peace.
